About the Charity
What is SNEHALAYA? Snehalaya, a unique non-profit, philanthropic organization founded in 1989, dedicated to serve the Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking (VCSET), a group comprising primarily of women and children (www.snehalaya.org). Women Empowerment Snehalaya runs an in-house vocational training centre and several activity centres called Bal Bhavan across various Ahmedn agar slums. These centres are run by rehabilitated sex workers and Snehalaya volunteers, who impart vocational skills to underprivileged women and children. YVO channelized the donation received for the month of February 2015 towards equipping these centres with 4 embroidery machines.
Small Act, Big Impact? The 4 embroidery machines bought with your Rs.300 will have a two-fold impact on the lives of hundreds of women: 1. These skill sets will not only equip the slum dwellers with a new means of making a living, but also discourage unethical practices such as second generation prostitution amongst the sex workers. 2. The sale of the products manufactured with the help of the embroidery machines will act as a new source of revenue for the underprivileged. Overall, it promises to uplift their lives and improve their standard of living.
