About the Charity
SAMARITAN HELP MISSION (SHM) is a humanitarian institution based in the slums of Tikiapara, Howrah with its basic objective being to save the children, youth and women of this slum from falling prey to the drug mafias and avoid them from getting involved into nefarious activities like bootlegging, drug-peddling, smuggling, prostitution etc. Howrah is a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood with approximately 80% of the population being Muslims and the motto of SHM's Mission is "HELP PEOPLE BASED ON NEED, NOT ON CREED". Since 2003, SHM has been regularly conducting a Skill Development Training Project on conventional tailoring and Zardousi (embroidery work) at its Tikiapara Project Unit for the poor and underprivileged adolescent girls and widowed/ abandoned women so that they can stay away from antisocial activities, earn their basic livelihood, become self-dependent, contribute to the development of the area and be the collective voice of their rights.
Trainees are channelized to the employers of the huge garment manufacturing industry of Howrah Haat or are encouraged to start entrepreneurship. Since 2013, SHM is in the process of upgrading their conventional tailoring unit to an Industrial tailoring training unit. YVO channelized the donation received for the month of December 2016 towards equipping SHM's Industrial Tailoring Training Unit with 5 Industrial sewing machines to strengthen this project. "Industrial Sewing machines for underprivileged women of Tikiapara Slums, Howrah" These 5 Industrial sewing machines donated with your Rs.300 will every year help impact the lives of about 60+ impoverished adolescent girls and women of the slums of Tikiapara by enabling them to become self-sufficient.
