About the Charity

Marathwada Navnirman Lokayat is a voluntary organisation established in 1982, aiming at creating channels to satisfy the needs of marginal peasants, landless labourers and women. Manavlok is located at Ambajogai thensil of Beed district and works in 151 villages of Ambajogai, Majalgaon and Kaij Tehsils. Dr. Dwarkadasji Lohiya (Babuji) laid the foundation stone of this voluntary organisation for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural poor. Manavlok believes in providing the means for development rather than giving money to the poor. Thus, funds are directed at start up projects with the expectation that beneficiaries put in equal time and energy.

Compartment bunding helps reduce soil erosion of the top layer of fertile land. It also helps to maintain moisture in farm land. It helps conserving soil as well as harvesting water at the micro level. This operation is mostly carried out on farm land having a moderate slope and drainage line which erodes maximum fertile soil. Compartment bunding helps recharge 2.5 lakh litres of water per acre over the year. They also help in terms of fodder for animals. Farmers can earn additional income by taking up mixed crops like pigeon pie over these bunds. Manavlok proposes to carry out compartment bunding of around 200-230 hectares of land in Ambajogai. YVO intends to channelize the donation received for January 2019 towards the cost of this compartment bunding which will help farmers in that area tremendously.
